This unit is advertised as having high-end 24 bit audio performance. From their website:

"Electrical Specifications:
Signal to noise ratio - 96dB
Dynamic range - 106dB
Sampling rate - 48Khz

The audio signal chain is completely digital from the digital audio files to the digital amplifier at the end of the processing chain. Audio of this quality is usually only found in professional equipment."

In January of 2009, FOXPRO purchased a KAS-2030MS wildlife caller. Our engineering evaluation revealed serious shortcomings. Here is what we found.



The photo above shows the signals that determine the digital audio qualities of the Wildlife Technologies KAS-2030. The yellow trace depicts the sample rate signal at 32KHz, while the blue trace shows 16 bits of data within a single sample pulse. These tests were performed on every sound that was included on the unit and they all netted the same results.

The measured sample rate is NOT 48KHz as advertised, but rather 32KHz. The measured audio quality depth is NOT 24 bits as advertised, but rather 16 bits. Both of the above points are true, factual, and cannot be disputed. See the photo. Given points 1) through 3), the signal to noise ratio is NOT -96dB as advertised. The true number could be no better than -90dB. Given points 1) through 3), the dynamic range is NOT 106dB as advertised. The true number could be no better than 95/96dB. As to the claim that the audio chain is completely digital, this too is NOT true. The output of the CS4350 DAC used in the KAS-2030 is an ANALOG signal. This ANALOG signal is fed into the ANALOG input of the MAX9703 power amplifier. The "digital to digital" claim is blatantly FALSE.
