About the High-Powered Prairie Blaster & Batteries

When it comes to loudness and battery life, Foxpro's new Prairie Blaster is able to offer the best of both! We know of no other self-contained caller that has been designed to deliver 10 watts of power to two internal and two external loudspeakers. That's a total of 40 honest watts…Power second to none! Of course, all of that power will place a tremendous burden on the batteries. Your Prairie Blaster gives you a choice of operating modes…one for absolute maximum loudness, and the other for better battery run time.

Power Save Mode

If you decide that you don't need that ear-splitting volume, you can operate your Prairie Blaster with one speaker selected, at three-quarter volume for 36 continuous hours on 8 economical "D" alkaline batteries. The total run time will increase quite a bit if the caller is used for say 20 minutes, and then turned off for 10 or 15 minuets, which is how it would be typically used in an actual hunting scenario. This will equate to tremendous total run times of well over 40 hours, and at a three-quarter volume setting, it will be very loud indeed! The Prairie Blaster will normally "boot up" in Power Save mode.*

High Power Mode

There may be times when you really need every last ounce of volume, say on a very windy day. Your Prairie Blaster can accommodate you in this situation as well. To enter High Power mode, hold the down-arrow on the Prairie Blaster keypad, and turn on the power switch. Continue to hold the down-arrow and release it when the display shows "H-P". As you turn up the volume to the max to overcome the wind, the caller will produce more power. However, this requirement can overburden the alkaline batteries. Although these batteries contain a lot of energy, there is a limit as to how much instantaneous power they can deliver to the amplifiers. If you need to operate in the High Power mode at very high volume levels, the alkaline batteries may not be able to deliver sufficient power for the task. For long term maximum volume use, we recommend the optional Sealed Lead Acid battery and charger kit. This battery will deliver as much power as the amplifiers need for absolute maximum loudness in High Power mode. However, since the total stored energy capacity of the SLA is less that that of the alkaline "D" batteries, run times at lower volume settings with the SLA battery will be somewhat less than what is achievable with alkaline batteries.

* NOTE: A few early Prairie Blasters were shipped that default to High Power mode upon turn-on. On these units, holding the down arrow button when power is turned on will put the unit in Power Save mode, and the display will show "P-S".

Click here for a chart showing typical battery run times with the Lightning Jack sound playing. Times are in hours. Three quarter volume is defined as volume 30 on the remote control. N/R means not recommended. You can see that at moderate volume and power levels, the alkaline batteries offer excellent performance. If you must use the maximum power available from the prairie blaster, then the best choice is the optional SLA battery and charger kit.

Numeric Keypad Sound Entry

Store up to 10 custom sound presets with individual volume levels. Two quick access preset buttons are located on the side of the TX-500.

10 Custom Sound Sequences

FOXFADE™
Manipulate the volume level of the L/R channels on a stereo audio file. For example, if you are playing a sound that has a rabbit on the left audio channel and a coyote on the right audio channel you can use FOXFADE to gain independent control of volume of both sounds within the stereo audio file (i.e. decrease the volume of the rabbit--or silence it completely--while the volume of the coyote remains the same or vice versa.) In mono operation, FOXFADE will act as a mixer moving sounds from the front speaker to rear speaker.

A/V (Auto Volume)
Auto Volume allows you to begin your sound playback at zero volume and slowly increase it to your desired level. Once your desired has been reached, the volume level will begin to modulate up and down. This leaves your hands free from making manual volume changes.

Single Play Mode allows you to have the selected sound play once, then stop.

Sequential Mode will play one sound to the end then move on to the next sound.
