![]() Q. Can I use lithium batteries in my FOXPRO game call? A. Yes. You can definitely use lithium batteries in FOXPRO game calls, but you may not get the full benefit of their larger capacity. The reason for this is that most consumer-type lithium cells do not like a lot of current drawn out of them at once. They will, however, do well if you can manage the volume of the unit, especially in colder weather. There are some new rechargeable lithium batteries that do very well under large current demands and that can be charged quickly. FOXPRO will be exploring this technology as it becomes more mainstream and affordable. At this time we recommend NiMH (nickel-metal-hydride) batteries for FOXPRO game calls as the best all around choice. If you are seeking extremely long run times, we recommend our SLA battery back for the AR4, FX3, and FX5. ![]() Q. Why does my low battery LED illuminate while playing certain sounds? A. The low battery LED blinking can be a normal occurrence under fairly loud volume
conditions. During loud passages in sound you are demanding a lot of current from the
battery. This pulls the battery life down for brief period and the low battery LED is
detecting that. To maximize battery life you should choose the speaker that is best suited
for the sound. If you play one speaker at a time, for example, you can practically double
the battery life. Another option would be to use our SLA battery pack. A. A good rule of thumb when charging batteries with the standard wall charger is to
let them charge about twice as long as you have used them. If you were playing the unit
at very high volumes, then you may want to charge it about four times as long as you
were playing it. Make sure that the overall charge time does not exceed ten
hours. Q. How much longer will a 12V battery last over regular AA batteries? A. To use an external battery with the FX3 or FX5 you will need a 5.5/2.5mm coaxial connector with the
center being positive. You can use up to 15VDC to run the unit. You need to be sure that you disconnect
the internal batteries or remove them from the tray and just plug the empty tray in. It is also
recommended to use a 5 amp inline fuse as well. Q. Why do my batteries get hot while playing? A. Battery life is affected by many different factors. Most folks who are experiencing
these issues are probably using regular, alkaline batteries. Please be aware that alkaline
batteries are not recommended for getting maximum results when using the FX3 or FX5. A. Voltage and current ratings alone will not be enough to determine whether or not a
certain charger is compatible with your unit. We can often times inform you of
compatibility based upon the printed part number on the charger itself to see if it is a
valid FOXPRO charger. A. Absolutely. For the 48, 416, and 532 just unscrew the speaker/ring from the front of the unit to
gain access to the battery tray and replace the NiMH batteries with alkaline batteries.
It's easy to carry to a spare set of batteries in your shirt pocket. We recommend that
you place some tape around the battery holder in order to keep the batteries from popping
out if the caller is banged against a tree or dropped. |
