Spitfire Programming Notes

Programming sounds on a Spitfire is very similar to programming sounds on any other FOXPRO game call. The only difference is the Spitfire stores its sounds on a removeable Micro SD card. Since there is no USB port on the Spitfire, you need to plug the removeable Micro SD card into your computer. Most computers do not have a slot to plug one of these into. You will need a reader/writer to plug the Micro SD card into your computer.

There are two types of reader/writers. The first is called an adapter. An adapter is a larger SD card that has a cavity to insert a Micro SD card into. You plug the Micro SD card into the adapter, and then plug the adapter into your computer. Some computers may have a slot to plug a larger SD card into.

The second type is a USB reader/writer. It has a slot to plug a Micro SD card into, and then a USB plug at the end. You plug your Micro SD card into the USB reader/writer, and then you plug the reader/writer into your computer.

Either option allows you to connect your Micro SD card to the computer to edit your sounds. When you get your Micro SD card plugged in, the computer will assign it a temporary drive letter. From this point, follow the instructions outlined here for using the FOXPRO programming utility or here for programming your call manually without the use of the utility.

Compatible Memory Cards

Before purchasing a new micro SD memory card to use in your FOXPRO Spitfire game call, it is important to be aware that there are certain restrictions on card selection. While most brands of micro SD cards will work, there are four types that are not compatible; Lexar, Staples, Duracell, and PNY. Make sure the memory card you are selecting is not branded by either of these names to ensure it will work.

It is recommended that you keep your card selection 2GB or under for the best performance. Cards larger than 2GB will not work with the Spitfire.

Formatting a New Memory Card

Once you have the card in your possession, you need to be able to connect it to your PC. To make this connection, you may need a micro SD card adapter (reader/writer). If you are purchasing the adapter new, make sure that it is a reader and writer. If the adapter is only a reader, you will be unable to modify the card for use with the Spitfire. FOXPRO has these adapters available with the patch cable for $14.95 by clicking here.

The majority of micro SD cards produced today are shipped to stores with a file system format of FAT. In order for the card to work in your Spitfire, the file system needs to be formatted as FAT32. To format the new card for FAT32 using the Windows operating system, perform the following steps:

  1. Connect the micro SD card to your card adapter and connect the adapter to your PC. By doing this, Windows will assign the card a drive letter.
  2. Open the My Computer icon (may be labeled as just Computer on Windows Vista & 7) and locate the drive letter for the card.
  3. Using your mouse, right-click on the icon for the new card.
  4. Click on the Format menu item.
  5. On the Window that appears, locate the text box labeled Volume Label. In the box, type in: SP1 (be sure to observe capitalization on this text--it must be exact).
  6. Locate the File System option on this screen. Select FAT32 from the choices.
  7. Make sure that the Quick Format option is not selected.
  8. Click on the Start button on the format screen. This will bring up a warning stating that all files/contents on the card will be erased. Click OK to begin the format. The format may be very brief or it could take several minutes depending upon your PC and size of the memory card.Once the format process is complete, the new memory card is now set up and ready to be used with the FOXPRO programming utility. If you have programmed your original card previously, you will be familiar with the programming steps from this point on. If you are new to the programming process, have a look at our programming support center online.

Sound Numbering Requirements

The Spitfire must have exactly 24 sounds installed at all times. Do not load install less or more that 24 sounds, otherwise the transmitter update process will fail. If you are using the FOXPRO programming software, it will remind you that you must always have 24 sounds. If programming manually, make sure that you see files spanning from 000 through 023.

Updating the TX24 Playlist

Perform the following steps to transfer a new sound list to the TX24 remote:

  1. Disconnect all accessories from the Spitfire (I.E. speakers or decoy)
  2. Turn the power off on both the Spitire and the TX-24
  3. Connect the patch cable to the sound upload jack on the TX-24 and the AUX jack on the Spitfire
  4. Turn on the TX-24
  5. Once powered on, the TX-24 will display "Turn On Caller"
  6. Power on the Spitfire
  7. The display on the TX-24 will read "Transfer". When it's done, the display will read "Unplug Cable Press Send"
  8. Unplug the cable from both the TX-24 and the Spitfire
  9. Press and hold the send button for several seconds. The playlist has been transferred
NOTE: This process may take a few seconds. DO NOT turn off the TX-24 or the Spitfire during this process.
